Hi Everybody,
And by “everybody”, I’m sure I’m mostly addressing friends who are reading this inaugural post either (a) out of loyalty, or (b) because I said I’d hold my breath until my face turns blue should they hit “delete” instead. Regardless of loyalty or blackmail, I’m thrilled you are here. Welcome!
If you don’t know me, please allow me to introduce myself: My name is David, and I’m passionate about connecting with people who share their ideas, experiences and strategies for living lives of meaning and fulfillment. I’m especially excited whenever I get to learn about their experiences first hand.
In 2008 this passion manifested itself as a personal growth/lifestyle blog (and book), eventually clocking in over three hundred posts over three years. In 2016 I created an in-person community called “Inspired Victoria”, a space for speakers to share their inspiring stories, and where members could cultivate genuine connections and friendships. Sadly, after four years and over one hundred events, Covid showed up and shut us down.
Like many others, we also thought this virus would be, at the most, a couple of months of inconvenience and interruption of our daily lives… Boy, were we were ever wrong! Twenty (or so) months and many social challenges later, the world is still in the thick of it.
But here’s the thing: During this period, we’ve seen the rise of a second, equally harmful virus; a virus of negativity that spreads quickly through misleading web pages, social media posts and network “news” channel, infecting people with non-stop misinformation, nastiness, anger, hate-mongering and even bigotry.
For many, this “virus” has impacted the relationships they have with their friends, families, and even with themselves – and not in a good way. This omni-present negativity has people disillusioned, anxious and afraid; traditional ideas of right or wrong have become blurred, and people are losing hope in their dreams, their lives, and even themselves. But as bad as it all seems, I’ve also discovered that it doesn’t have to be this way.
Aristotle wrote, “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” – it’s an idea that inspired me to shift my own focus away from the dark onslaught of media negativity, and move toward stories of human kindness, goodness and inspiration instead.
Once I made the conscious choice to focus on the light, something miraculous happened: I quickly became overwhelmed by the many inspiring, uplifting human stories I discovered, and wanted to share them. Because the truth is that even in a world that forces negativity upon us 24/7, there are many stories that provide hope, love and inspiration for those who know the places to look. THE INSPIRED HUMANS PROJECT will be one of those places.
THE INSPIRED HUMANS PROJECT understands that every single person has a unique and inspiring story to tell; be it through words, art or photography, and it’s our mission to share these stories with the world. (For our full mission, click HERE.)
THE INSPIRED HUMANS PROJECT will have three phases, to be rolled out over one year:
(1) THE BLOG: Where guest authors & creatives share their stories & work (ETA: Oct 2021)
(2) THE PODCAST: To interview people whose stories move and inspire (ETA: May 2022)
(3) LIVE EVENTS: As health regulations permit, in-person gatherings for education and human connection (ETA: June/July 2022)
In addition, we’ll offer (limited) social media to inspire and encourage mutually beneficial exchanges and connections amongst contributors and readers alike.
If you’d enjoy receiving some inspiration in your inbox each week -the kind that feels like sipping hot cup of cocoa in front of a roaring fireplace on a brisk, chilly December afternoon- please subscribe to our weekly journal HERE and we’ll send you the weekly roundup in one convenient post.
And of course, if you (or someone you know) are interested in submitting creative work (personal story, art, photography, etc.) please contact me HERE. Links to your outside blogs, books, websites etc. is highly encouraged!
And with that said, our first post is officially completed! I hope I’ve successfully convinced (cajoled, persuaded, grovelled) enough for you to subscribe to our weekly newsletter and become part of our inspired community. I’m so pleased you are here!
Thank you again, and welcome to THE INSPIRED HUMANS PROJECT.
